Guangzhou auto show: Chinese cars make 'incredible progress'

New car makers draw less inspiration from European brands than from tesla and smartphones.


Currently, the average customer age in China is much lower than in Germany or the us, and most customers buy cars directly without financing or leasing.


Most of the Chinese brands at the guangzhou show have plenty of legroom and head space in the back seats, while most European cars are following the Chinese lead with long-wheelbase models. More than 10 years ago, audi achieved great success with its A6L developed for the Chinese market. Now, European and American high-end cars have successively launched long-wheelbase models, such as BMW 3 series, audi A4L, mercedes-benz e-class and jaguar XFL. Some manufacturers have even decided to abandon short wheelbase versions.


On the new energy front, sales of electric cars in China have fallen sharply in recent months as subsidies have been cut. Ola Kallenius, Daimler's chief executive, is cautiously optimistic about sales of premium electric suvs such as the mercedes-benz EQC.


Chinese carmakers have made incredible progress in their brands and products. In particular, the new force brand of car manufacturing, through its unique design to attract young consumers, and the final brand can withstand the test, still need time to prove.
