Publish Date: 2020.09.18

Kia motors said in a press conference that it will launch a new all-electric vehicle in 2021, which will be the forerunner of the company's 11 electric vehicle series by 2025 and part of its plan to launch seven all-electric vehicles by 2027.

Kia said the electric vehicle, code-named CV, will be based on the Global Electric Modular Platform (E-GMP) and will be delivered globally from next year.

At his factory in Hacheng, South Korea, on Sept 16, Kia CHIEF Executive Ho Sung Song outlined kia's new electric vehicle strategy, which is to offer a variety of models with different range ranges according to market demand, to suit different needs such as urban centres, long journeys and high-performance driving.

Kia plans to sell 20% of its electric cars in developed markets (North America, Europe and South Korea) by 2025. By 2029, electric vehicles will account for 25% of its global sales.

The transition to electric vehicles is part of Kia's "Plan S", announced in January, which makes electrification and new mobility a long-term priority.

Kia will also expand on electric vehicle ordering, electric vehicle battery leasing, battery "Second Life" and other aspects.

Regarding kia's electric vehicle promotion plan for the Chinese market, kia officials said that the promotion plan will be announced at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show. At present, Dongfeng Yueda Kia has 2 plug-in hybrid electric cars and 1 pure electric car. KX3 New Energy is the first pure electric car launched by Dongfeng Yueda Kia in late 2018.
