Nine car companies recall over 4.27 million vehicles through centralized filing, due to potential hazards identified by emergency door handles

Publish Date: 2026.08.24

On August 21st, the Recall Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation issued multiple vehicle recall notices to the public. Tesla, Xiaomi, Xiaopeng, Leapmotor, Geely Jike, Dongfeng, Chery, BAIC Blue Valley, and China FAW have simultaneously filed for recall plans. The total number of vehicles involved in this recall exceeds 4.27 million.

The direct cause of this recall is that the emergency mechanical handle inside the vehicle is similar in color to the interior, with insufficient recognition, which is not conducive to operation. If a vehicle experiences an extreme collision that causes the low-voltage system to fail, this defect will hinder the quick opening of doors for occupants to escape and also have a negative impact on external rescue operations. Each car company will provide free rectification services for the vehicles involved, mainly by adding warning signs and replacing relevant parts with text prompts.

In terms of the number of recalls, Tesla ranks first with a recall scale of approximately 2.976 million vehicles; Xiaomi Motors recalled about 390000 vehicles, Zero Run Motors recalled about 370000 vehicles, and the remaining other car companies recalled a total of about 550000 vehicles. The involved models cover multiple domestic and imported Tesla models, as well as mainstream new energy models such as Xiaomi SU7, Zero Run C11/C01, Xiaopeng G6, Jike 007/X, Dongfeng Nano 06, Chery iCAR 03, FAW EH7, and BAIC Jihu Kaola.

This large-scale centralized recall coincides with the eve of the implementation of the new national standard for car door handle safety. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the "Safety Technical Requirements for Automotive Door handles" (GB 48001-2026) in January 2026, which will be officially implemented on January 1, 2027. The standard clearly requires that vehicle interior door handles must be equipped with permanent and clear identification marks. Industry perspectives suggest that the simultaneous launch of active recalls by multiple car companies is a compliance rectification action before the official implementation of the new national standard.
