In fact, there is no absolute answer to the question of "which is better between ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate batteries", but the different characteristics of the two types of batteries should also be targeted at different scenarios. For example, high-end versions of pure electric vehicles that focus on high-performance or long-range models often use ternary lithium batteries, while economical small cars that focus on urban commuting are mostly lithium iron phosphate batteries. This is due to the advantages of lightweight and higher energy density brought by ternary lithium batteries.

Higher energy density will also be directly reflected in the most important range capability of pure electric vehicles. For example, due to its high energy density, it can even pack a 100 degree battery pack into a car chassis. The decomposition temperature of ternary lithium batteries is about 200 degrees Celsius, but the decomposition temperature of lithium iron phosphate batteries can be around 800 degrees Celsius. This is due to the differences in materials and structures between the two types of batteries. For example, the ternary lithium positive electrode is composed of a composite of nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) or nickel cobalt aluminum (NCA) metal oxides, where the higher the proportion of nickel element (such as high nickel 811 type), the stronger the energy density. However, the high activity of nickel also leads to a decrease in the thermal stability of positive electrode materials. Although cobalt can improve the structural stability of positive electrode materials, the cost of cobalt is too high. In fact, the overall cost of ternary lithium batteries is higher than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries, as the positive electrode of lithium iron phosphate does not contain any precious metal elements such as cobalt and nickel. But fortunately, the new energy market is very competitive. One is that car companies are concerned about safety. Even though ternary lithium battery packs have poor thermal stability compared to lithium iron phosphate batteries, they still do a very good job in safety. After all, vehicles equipped with ternary lithium batteries are often high-end models with higher prices, and the cost of safety is also higher.

The other is the current prices and costs of car companies' coupons.
