In 1957, at the second China Export Commodities Fair, the Chairman of Jordan Overseas Trade ordered three domestic cars, thus achieving a breakthrough in China's auto export. However, for a long time after that, most of China's automobiles were exported in the form of free foreign aid through inter-state agreements. The overall technical level and quantity were not high, and the progress was not smooth.

In terms of vehicle types, China's passenger car exports will reach 2.529 million in 2022, up 56.7% year on year; The export of commercial vehicles was 582000, up 44.9% year on year. At the same time, 679000 new energy vehicles were exported, successfully doubling. Among them, in November last year, 153000 new energy vehicles were exported, setting a new monthly export volume.

However, when it comes to the transformation of China's automobile export, it is not a feat accomplished overnight, but a painstaking exploration for several years.

In 2012, China's automobile export exceeded 1 million vehicles for the first time, and the actual export was 1.05 million, realizing the first leap.

It is reported that in 2021, China's exports of new energy vehicles accounted for 1/3 of the global total, and it is the world's largest exporter of new energy vehicles. According to the data of relevant consulting companies, nearly 20% of the electric vehicles licensed in Europe in some months last year were made in China.

Open a new chapter of sailing

The leading enterprises of China's automobile export have always been in a stable pattern, and they are the main force driving export growth. In other words, the sailing of China's automobile industry is accompanied by new breakthroughs in the export business of many Chinese automobile enterprises.

In 2022, SAIC, Chery, Tesla, Chang'an, Dongfeng, Geely, Great Wall, BAIC, Jiangqi and CNHTC are the top ten enterprises in the list of vehicle exports. In addition to Tesla, the other nine are all Chinese auto companies, and the total export volume of these nine traditional auto companies has also been close to 90% of China's total auto exports.

With the performance of 906000 vehicles, SAIC Group won the title of "China's top export car" in 2022. Its own brands account for more than 65% of the total overseas sales, such as Grand Mercure and Chase.

As the first Chinese auto company to deploy overseas markets, Chery's export business also achieved a significant year-on-year growth. In 2022, the export volume reached 452000 vehicles, an increase of 67.7%.

In the view of industry insiders, thanks to the strength of the domestic automobile industry, the relative integrity of the industrial chain and the cost-effectiveness advantage, in recent years, the domestic automobile has formed a certain influence in the market segments of some countries and regions, and more and more automobile enterprises are moving from China to the world.

In addition to Dongfeng, Geely and Great Wall, the export sales of the above five auto companies have achieved double-digit year-on-year growth in the past year.

In addition to the high growth of the leading export enterprises, more than ten Chinese auto companies such as BYD and Weilai have also emerged in the overseas battle and announced their export plans one after another.

According to the data analysis of the main export countries, the countries with the largest automobile exports in China are Mexico, Chile, Saudi Arabia and Belgium, with the cumulative export volume of more than 150000 vehicles. In addition, Australia has become the fifth largest exporter of automobiles in China, and the number of finished automobiles exported to the United Kingdom and Russia is also growing.

It is not difficult to find that the latest market distribution of China's automobile exports is changing.

It is quite different from the situation in which we have the impression that it is mainly sold to the third world countries. Now there are many developed countries such as Britain, Belgium and Australia in China's automobile export market. This also means that China's automobile export has entered a new stage, with a stable distribution of fuel vehicles in the markets of developing countries, and the use of new energy vehicles to expand the markets of developed countries such as Europe and the United States.
